Sourcing Safety
Using resourcefulness to deliver on our promise of Safety, Quality, and Schedule from pre-construction to project completion.
Safety is a serious business on construction projects. For Perfect Polish, safety isn’t just part of our mission statement, it’s woven into the fabric of our daily work, both in office and on-site, and is a cornerstone of our corporate culture.
Typically, planning for project safety follows a pretty basic template, whether that includes submitting Job-Hazard Analyses, OSHA and EMR records, Safety Plans and Program Documents, or usually, all of the above.
We’ve been in business long enough to know, however, that “typical” doesn’t always apply on each and every site. Recently, the day before a planned job walk on a large-scale industrial project, Perfect Polish PMs were notified of the requirement from the GC for a specialty hard-hat in order to access the jobsite.
Despite our decades of experience, this is the first time our company has been asked to provide PPE outside of the typical hardhat requirements.
The hardhat in question was a Level 1, Class C rated hardhat, which is used primarily in heavy industrial applications, and for jobs requiring climbing and scaling.
As a company concerned with flooring, typically, we keep both feet flat on the ground, so while we were unfamiliar, we knew it was a non-negotiable for gaining access to the jobsite.
The team turned to Tate Peck, a Project Manager with over 17 years of experience for help in sourcing the hard-to-come by style of hardhat required. The quick turnaround meant any online or drop-shipping options were out of the question.
Peck made calls to multiple retailers and distributors seeking out the hardhat with little luck. Several hours and multiple phone calls later, Tate was able to find a set of hardhats matching the requirements. The only issue? The hardhats were logoed for another company who never came to pick them up.
Luckily, Perfect Polish logoed stickers fit perfectly over the other company’s logo, allowing us the jobsite walk to go off without a hitch.
Perfect Polish built its reputation with stories like these. Our employees seek to solve problems, anticipate bottlenecks, and, most importantly, require adherence to safety standards and guidelines from pre-construction to project completion.
